His latest sermon “Back to Basics”-- “Science
of effective living: Tools for enlightened living”, Dr. Teel presents a ‘new’ way of thinking
about your spiritual life, physical life, relationship and work life. You might name it ‘ancient wisdom’
amalgamated into ‘new thought’. It stems
from the teachings of Dr. Ernest Holmes
and his insightful book: The Science of Mind and Spirit.
Dr. Teel offered a new topic: “Science of happiness!” Several books on the market show anyone ‘how
to be happy’.
As he always does to start off a sermon, Dr. Teel told a
joke about a bagpipe player hired to play at a funeral of a Scotsman.
I can’t tell the story well enough because I couldn’t write it down fast
enough. But, the bagpipe player came to
a graveyard an hour late, and the only people there were a bunch of ditch-diggers. He figured they were burying the coffin, so
he got out and played his best piece, “Amazing Grace.” He finished with sweat
pouring down his brow. The ditch-digging
crew stood up to give him a rousing ovation.
One crewman said, “I’ve never had anyone celebrate with such enthusiasm
for the burial of a sewer pipe line!”
You had to be there as Dr. Teel tells those jokes with the
talent of Robin Williams. He rocks the audience with laughter every
Sunday. And, more important, creating
laughter also allows him to open peoples’ emotions up so he can pour-in
spiritual wisdom. He makes for a master
teacher!
Dr. Teel said, “We live a great life…we live to enjoy a
great life! Today, I’d like to go over
tools and techniques for living a great life.
As we speak about it every Sunday, Dr. Ernest Holmes started the Science
of Mind and Spirit as an educational institution. He talked about the universe being formed
from the invisible to the visible form.
Thought became form. Each of us
is the center of creative consciousness.”
Rather than following ancient religions where ‘God’ or ‘The
Great Spirit’ or any ‘deity’ of 1,000 names for the ‘Infinite Intelligence’ may
be mentioned, this evolved concept shows that ‘God’ works in and through each
of us and that the power of God responds to our thoughts.
He talked about Jesus being the ‘Master teacher’. To be fair, you may take Buddha, Hindu, Confucius
and any number of spiritual leaders as master teachers. They purported to know something more than
the average human. But in the end,
today, we know that each of us enjoys the same abilities to understand and
create our own lives through our understanding of ‘creative processes’. In other words, we no longer need to ‘look
up to’ historical figures because we enjoy the same abilities within
ourselves.
In fact, if you return to the Jesus lessons, he said, “You
will go forth and do greater acts than I did.”
He correctly stated that you enjoy the same unlimited abilities he
enjoyed. You can engage them or
otherwise. It’s up to you!
TOOLS FOR ENLIGHTENED LIVING
CENTERING YOUR MIND
“Let’s begin with ‘Centering’” said Dr. Teel. “Some faiths
teach ‘atonement’. We teach ‘At-one-ment’. Spiritual life is about ‘centering’, not
about being ‘high’. But once you become
a centered being, a ‘high’ becomes a byproduct.
Spiritual energies shift around us and inside us. We must be available
to the spiritual movement. When we center, a peace moves through us.”
Dr. Teel showed the audience on the big screen the factors
that bring about ‘enlightened living’.
Solving problems means thanking the ‘god energy’ within you to
understand and solve personal problems.
“We need to release and let go so many mistaken old stories,”
said Dr. Teel. “If you keep making mileage from your old stories, you fail yourself.
You can release guilt and shame. You can
gain insight and go forward. Instead of guilt and shame, march forward to the
light.”
RELEASING
“Make a shift in consciousness to release and let inner love
heal you,” said Dr. Teel. “Then we can forgive others and then ourselves. Let a grievance against another go. Let go
and let God.”
From releasing, Dr. Teel talked about ‘Affirmative Prayer’
or ‘Spiritual mind treatment’. In such a
prayer, we do not ‘beseech’; ‘implore’ ; ‘beg’ or ‘bargain’ with God. Since ‘God’
expresses through each of us, we manifest ‘God’s’ ability to create. That’s
affirmative prayer. We work with the Creator to manifest our intentions. Good 21st century spiritual stuff,
huh?! You betcha’!
PRAYING HEALS
Holmes said, “Use principles that the God-life knows. God is not a reluctant energy. Prayer is
based on omnificent good.”
“We open to that
opportunity so God heals us,” said Dr. Teel. “When we pray, we realize we are
spiritual beings that we are the breath of God.
When we do, we let it go and we give in to it. Prayer is not 911 prayer.”
Essentially, prayer treatment helps a person move into
alignment with the emerging creative energy of the universe. Call it God or call it Gertrude! It does not
matter. You can harness ‘IT’ with your
thoughts and words.
“We do not pray to change others or any situation,” said Dr.
Teel. “We pray to change ourselves.
Break-throughs happen within each of us. Let’s all heal ourselves.”
Dr. Teel does note that anyone can pray for anyone else
using ‘prayer treatment’ or ‘affirmative prayer’. It means you align with the God power within
you and move it to loved ones or anyone that you render into prayer.
CELEBRATE THE GOOD
In the end, life encourages all of us as to ‘celebration’. Just go out and enjoy yourself! Cheer! Laugh! Jump up and get excited!
“Some people are awkward about being happy,” said Dr. Teel. “Voltaire
said, ‘Life seems like a shipwreck, so let’s sing in the lifeboats.’ Therefore,
celebrate your life!”’
“Let us pray,” said Dr. Teel. “Move to that place, one life, one love, that
life is my life and your life. I am a
child of the infinite source. My consciousness soars. I am a blessing unfolding.
I am the higher good. I place my life in right action. God is at work in my life. My life is
centered. I am grateful. I turn it over
to the infinite law. It’s unfolding. I
let it be and so it is.”
Lauren stepped forward to sing, “Gratitude before me,
gratitude behind me, gratitude to the right of me, gratitude to the left of me,
gratitude above me, gratitude below me, gratitude within me, gratitude all
around me, I’m so grateful, I’m so grateful, I’m so grateful!”
