Democratic plans for revamping U.S. healthcare are taking shape, with Senator Edward Kennedy soon to announce a proposal which could form the core of the nation's new health system. Kennedy will include both a new government program to provide medical coverage for all as well as a mandate that every American acquire some form of health insurance.

Judge Clears Way for Sale of Chrysler to Fiat

A federal judge on Sunday night cleared a path for Chrysler to exit bankruptcy by approving a sale of most of the carmaker’s assets to a new entity to be run by Fiat of Italy. Judge Arthur J. Gonzalez of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York approved the government-backed plan after three days of marathon hearings on the proposal.

Alleged NY police sodomy victim seeks $220 mln dollars

A man who last year said he had been sodomized by New York police with a truncheon is seeking $220 million dollars in damages. Tattoo parlor employee Michael Mineo says police held him down on a subway station platform October 15 and raped him with the baton, tearing his rectum.
His attorney, Kevin Mosley, told AFP he was filing a complaint against New York city, the police force and four officers “based on civil rights violations. Federal law prohibits the excesses.”

The hybrid rocket motor would launch Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo spacecraft into suborbital space at speeds of over 2,500 mph (4,000 kph) to send ticket-carrying passengers soaring to heights of 65 miles (110 km) above the Earth.

The heated debate in recent weeks about harsh interrogation treatments at Guantanamo Bay and elsewhere highlights what some scientists have been warning the U.S. for years: that almost no research exists to tell interrogators the best way to get information out of suspected terrorists.
Two years ago, the Intelligence Science Board told top intelligence officials, in a report that ran nearly 375 pages, that more behavioral research needs to be done into the art and science of interrogations.
