ACLU, Ron Paul’s Campaign for Liberty sue TSA over ‘illegal’ detention
6/18/09
•
Raw Story
The American Civil Liberties Union may have just earned itself a few more Republican admirers.Announcing a lawsuit against the Transportation Security Administration for the “illegal” detention of the Campaign for Liberty’s treasurer in April at a St. Louis airport, the ACLU damned what it called a “troubling pattern” of aggressive invasions of privacy by the TSA. Steve Bierfeldt, the man at the center of the controversy, recorded his confrontation with the airport security agents on his phone. The audio caused waves of indignation across the Internet, as he was seemingly harassed merely for carrying cash and Ron Paul campaign material.

Bad Flagstaff cops busted for...what? Hey wait a minute here!
06-18-2009
In a twist on the typical "bad cop" story, officers are put on
administrative leave for a very harmless picture. See the pic for
yourself and tell me if it compromises community values or police
integrity. I mean come on, seriously. If I was their supervisor I
wouldn't know what to reprimand them for. How do we expect law
enforcement to build relationships with people if they can't even
interact with us?
If you feel as I do, I hope you'll join me in sending a friendly note to Flagstaff PD to tell them that while we appreciate the efforts to maintain upstanding character, this issue shouldn't be one. Absent any more incriminating back-story, I think these guys should be back on the job.

Fossil Solves Mystery of Dinosaur Finger Evolution
06-18-2009
•
Live Science
The most primitive dinosaurs in the famous theropod group (that later included Tyrannosaurus rex)
had five "fingers." Later theropods had three, just like the birds that
evolved from them. But which digits? The theropod and bird digits
failed to match up if you number the digits from 1 to 5 starting with
the thumb. Theropods looked like they had digits 1, 2 and 3, while
birds have digits 2, 3 and 4.

Sasers: Sound-based Lasers Invented
06-18-2009
•
LiveScience
A saser produces an intense beam
of uniform sound waves on a nano scale.
Terahertz radiation is also used to reveal what's under your clothes in airport scans.
In the future, a saser might spot defects in nanometer-scale objects
like micro-electric circuits. Or sasers might be used for medical
imaging and security screening in novel ways.

Japan warns that North Korea may fire missile at U.S. on Independence Day
6/18/09
•
Dailymail.co.uk
North Korea may launch a long-range ballistic missile towards Hawaii on American Independence Day, according to Japanese intelligence officials.
The missile, believed to be a Taepodong-2 with a range of up to 4,000 miles, would be launched in early July from the Dongchang-ni site on the north-western coast of the secretive country.
Intelligence analysts do not believe the device would be capable of hitting Hawaii's main islands, which are 4,500 miles from North Korea.
Details of the launch came from the Japan's best-selling newspaper, Yomiuri Shimbun.
