IMF sees slow growth, tax hikes soon
08-23-2009
•
The Star
OTTAWA"The International Monetary Fund says most countries will need to raise taxes to pay off the trillions of dollars they spent fighting the global recession.
IMF chief economist Olivier Blanchard says in an article to be published today that governments acted properly in ramping up spending to stop the worst slump since World War II.
Soon, he says, nearly all countries will have to raise taxes to pay the recovery bill.

HC: FOX News Host Grills VA Official About ‘Death Book for Veterans’
8/23/09
•
Breit Bart
ox News: Tammy Duckworth, an injured veteran who is the assistant secretary for the Department of Veterans Affairs, said the manual is still under revision -- as stated in a disclaimer on the official Web site -- and has not officially been "reinstated." She said it was one of many options for injured veterans, calling it "simply a tool." Though Duckworth said the document has not been fully vetted, an official directive from July tells VA health practitioners to refer veterans to the document. Duckworth questioned whether that directive had been authorized at the highest levels. video;

Healthcare: 25 Reasons to Oppose H.R. 3200
8/23/09
•
Healthcare Horserace
A group out of Minnesota called the Citizens’ Council on Health Care has come up with a handy list of 25 reasons to oppose the “America’s Affordable Health Choices Act” also knows as H.R. 3200, the bill making its way through the House of Representatives.
Here is their handy-dandy list:
1. Rationing and Denial of Care - Health plans authorized to impose restrictions on access to care according to “clinical appropriateness.” (Sec. 121)
2. Political Appointees Decide - A health benefit advisory committee (political appointees) will decide what kind of benefits (medical treatments/practitioners/drugs) are and are not essential. The Secretary of HHS will implement the decision by rule. (Sec 122)
3. Limited Choice of Insurance Plans - A new “Health Choices Commissioner” will rule over insurance options for all Americans, deciding what insurers are available. (Sec 142) More....

"Wall Street profits from trades with Fed"
08-23-2009
•
CRIME & FEDERALISM
There is currently a proposal that would require Congress to audit the Federal Reserve. The bill has 282 co-sponsors, which means it would easily pass the House. Yet someone in the House has buried the bill. The Fed, of course, does not want audited.
Although the Fed gave hundreds-of-billions of money directly to Wall Street, the Fed has actually transfered trillions (nine trillion, by conservative estimates) through many subterfuges. Here is a recent example:

What Would Be Involved in an Audit of the Federal Reserve? " Part Three
08-23-2009
•
American Banking News
You see, the Federal Reserve can simply allow the auditing of what everyone has access to already, and claim they are audited consistently, and so checks and balances are in place. They’ve even released a 52-page report this year on how many times they’ve been audited in the year, and their supporters cite this as proof that everything is ok, and the lack of auditing is a myth created by Federal Reserve detractors.
The truth is that the Federal Reserve loves these faux audits for the very reason they can cite them in making their case they’re being audited, without looking like they’re not being honest and secret about it. I say faux audits, again, because they audit what everyone already knows, while not having access to the data that really matters to the American people.
What I’m saying is the alleged transparency is being picked and chosen by the Fed itself, and it legally has no need to reveal the really important data; and it doesn’t. So in the name of being audited and tr

Phoenix City Council flouts open meeting law yet again with Attorney General approval
08-23-2009
•
Arizona Republic
A past agreement with the attorney general resulted in new rules the
city must follow: providing the new stipulations in writing to all
meeting participants, placing a statement on the agenda that all
stipulations are subject to change and reading all the stipulations
into the record.
Phoenix failed on the third matter, he said.
He said the city agreed to do better next time.
"At this juncture, we are going to consider this matter closed," Assistant Attorney General Aschenbach wrote.

Millions face shrinking Social Security payments

Millions of older people face shrinking Social Security checks next
year, the first time in a generation that payments would not rise.
The trustees who oversee Social Security are projecting there won’t
be a cost of living adjustment (COLA) for the next 2 years. That
hasn’t happened since automatic increases were adopted in 1975.

What Would Be Involved in an Audit of the Federal Reserve? " Part Two
08-23-2009
•
American Banking News
Last post we talked about Congress being granted the power by the Constitution to “coin money, regulate the value thereof, and of foreign coin, and fix the standard of weights and measures.”
So Congress obviously has the authority to do that, and by extension, to audit the Federal Reserve. I have went into some length on that because it’s one of the tools being used to prevent the audit from becoming a reality by Ben Bernanke and his allies.
Now whether or not the Federal Reserve should even exist is a different question, and I won’t cloud the proposed audit of them with that. But because it does exist, and the Constitution places responsibility on Congress for monetary policy, they not only have the right, but the obligation to know and understand what is going on there, and communicating it to the American people.
Don’t get me wrong, Congress has delegated authority to the Federal Reserve to operate, but with that delegation must come accountability, along with an ongoing an

Sure Tax Cheat Tim we believe you!
""I don't think the financial system is reverting to past practice, and we won't let that happen," Mr. Geithner said. "The big banks are running with much less leverage now, much more conservative liquidity cushions, there's been a significant shrinking of their balance sheets, getting rid of bad assets and cleaning up. And the weakest parts of the system don't exist anymore."
Some banks, including those that received government bailout money, are earning record profits, increasing pay and ramping up risk. Goldman Sachs Group Inc., for instance, recently recorded its most profitable quarter ever and boosted its degree of risk-taking as measured by how much money it could lose in a single day."
"The consequence of achieving stability is that people can raise money, can raise equity, can borrow more easily at lower rates, that these markets have liquidity again," Mr. Geithner said.

Obama Care Sparks Second Wave of Ammo Shortages: Patients Told to Bite the Bullet
08-23-2009
•
CFP
Among the myriad of deplorable misanthropic schemes under Obama Care, which should properly be called Obama-Soros care, one of the most afflictive is the administration’s dedication to cost cutting by way of reducing such frivolous frills as anesthesia.
“Incredibly, Congress’s proposed healthcare reform plan risks skimping on anesthesia. According to one of the health-care bills in Congress, H.R. 3200, the public option would reduce reimbursement for anesthesia by over 50%.”
Liberals, who fancy themselves the sole arbiters of compassion, have no compunction about cutting corners on superfluous amenities like an anesthetic during surgery, according to anesthesiologist Ronald Dworkin writing for the Wall Street Journal.
In anticipation of Obama-Soros care, prescient Americans will certainly be stocking up on whiskey as well as bullets, sparking yet another nationwide ammo shortage.

The war on capitalism
Poor-mouthing our prosperity prospects
08-23-2009

Washington Post
President Obama is the most radical leader in U.S. history. Much of the public is focused on his ambitious plan to nationalize health care. The more they hear about it, the less they like it. Hence, Mr. Obama's poll numbers are dropping like a stone.
Yet his environmentalist agenda is just as dangerous. If passed, it will destroy America's free-market system. Like most liberal elitists, Mr. Obama is an incremental socialist. He does not believe in revolutionary change through blood and iron -- as did Soviet dictator Josef Stalin or Cuban despot Fidel Castro. Rather, Mr. Obama champions evolutionary socialism: the state's gradual takeover of key sectors of private industry. He is anti-capitalist and pro-big-government.
His cap-and-trade initiative seeks to severely limit carbon-dioxide
