Racketeering 101: Bailed Out Banks Threaten Systemic Collapse If Fed Discloses Information

Zero Hedge
And so the guns come out blazing. The Clearing House Association, another name for all the banks that were bailed out over the past year with the generous contributions from all of you, dear taxpayers, are now threatening with another instance of complete systemic collapse if Bloomberg's lawsuit is allowed to proceed unchallenged, let alone if any of the "Audit The Fed" measures are actually implemented.
As a reminder, The Clearing House Association consists of ABN Amro, Bank Of America, The Bank Of New York, Deutsche Bank, HSBC, JP Morgan Chase, US Bank and Wells Fargo.
In a declaration filed in the Bloomberg Case (08-CV-9595, Southern District of New York), the banks demonstrate no shame in attempting to perpetuate the status quo with regard to the Federal Reserve and demand that the wool over the eyes of the general population remain firmly planted in perpetuity.
The Clearing House submits this declaration because the Court's Order threatens to impair the

Charges Against Gov. Richardson Unlikely
08-27-2009
•
Washington Post
The FBI and a grand jury in Albuquerque have been investigating whether
CDR Financial Products, a Beverly Hills-based company, received a
contract with the New Mexico Finance Authority because of pressure from
Richardson or other state employees. CDR was paid $1.48 million for
advising the authority on investment decisions in 2004.
The firm and its president, David Rubin, together gave $100,000 to
Sí Se Puede and Moving America Forward, both PACs started by
Richardson, shortly before winning the state contract.

Mass. Court OKs $102M Wrongful-Conviction Award
08-27-2009
•
AP
A federal appeals court on Thursday upheld a $102 million judgment
against the government for withholding evidence that could have cleared
four men who spent decades in prison " including two who died there "
for a murder they didn't commit.
"While we reject its finding that the government is liable for
malicious prosecution, we uphold the court's alternate finding that the
government is liable for intentional infliction of emotional distress,"
the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said.
The district court judge said FBI agents were trying to protect
informants when they encouraged a witness to lie, then withheld
evidence they knew could prove Limone and the three other men weren't
involved in the Deegan killing.

China urges U.S. to halt surveillance near its shores
08-27-2009
•
Reuters
China called on the United States to reduce and eventually halt air and
sea military surveillance close to its shores after a series of
territorial disputes this year. Five times this year, Chinese vessels have confronted U.S. surveillance
ships in Asian waters, the U.S. Defense Department said in May. China
said the U.S. vessels had intruded its territory. There has since been
a sixth incident.

Paleontologists Uncover New Dinosaur In Australia
08-27-2009
•
red Orbit
Paleontologists in Australia have discovered a new species of dinosaur on a sheep farm in the northern state of Queensland.
The fossils are of a large plant-eating sauropod, nicknamed Zac, which roamed the earth about 97 million years ago.
They were discovered in Eromanga, which is a town full of fossils that was once covered by a vast inland area.
According to the scientists, the discovery confirms Australia's importance as a center for dinosaur discovery.
In 2004, the country's largest dinosaur, Cooper, was found resting on the same sheep farm.
Cooper was a 98-foot long, new species of titanosaur, which is an enormous, armor-plated creature.
Scott Hocknull, a Queensland Museum paleontologist, said Zac's skeleton was smaller than Cooper's but more complete.
Zac had a very long neck, like other sauropods, and had a small head with blunt teeth. He also had a long tail that would counter-balance the neck

Do campaign contributions help win pension fund deals?
08-27-2009
•
USA Today
More than two dozen firms that have surfaced in a broad corruption investigation of public pension funds gave at least $1.97 million in campaign contributions to officials with potential influence over the funds' investments, a USA TODAY analysis shows.
The givers included private-equity giants such as the Blackstone Group, the Carlyle Group and the Quadrangle Group, the firm founded by Steven Rattner, who in July resigned as the White House point man for the auto industry rescue. The contributions are legal, and the firms haven't been accused of wrongdoing related to the giving.
Conflicts of interest
Even in cases with no charges of illegality, watchdogs argue that the campaign contributions " known as pay-to-play " create conflicts of interest.

The Devil We Know
08-27-2009
•
Lew Rockwell
What this country needs is a Fed Chairman that is immensely unpopular, backed by a courageous President. Under Paul Volcker and Ronald Reagan, this model proved effective at avoiding a complete economic collapse in the early 1980's. In case posterity's resounding approval has clouded anyone's memory, Volcker was vilified and threatened with impeachment at the height of that crisis. Reagan's decision to stand behind Volcker allowed the Chairman to persevere. It has never been popular to be responsible. Only after the markets settled and the country experienced twenty years of prosperity was history's final judgment made about Volcker.
Bernanke's re-nomination is a politically safe decision for President Obama, and at least Bernanke is a devil we know. However, this lack of a "change" for the better should squash any "hope" for a genuine recovery. If the Bush years were as bad as the Democrats claim, then it is curious that they are mimickin

Hitler / Obama Comparisons: Is Barack Obama Like Adolf Hitler or The Nazis?
08-27-2009
•
The Humble Libertarian
Socialism and The Obama Administration
In popular conception, "left-wing" politics taken to the extreme produces Stalin, while "right-wing" politics taken to the extreme produces Hitler. What a stupid contrivance! Why should two mass-murdering autocrats end up on opposite ends of a political spectrum? The general American public seems oblivious to the fact that the word "Nazi" is an abbreviation for the "National Socialist German Workers Party." (In German, the word "national" is pronounced nawt-zi-uh-nal.)
Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party were socialist. The horrors inherent in socialism have made themselves all too apparent at this point on the timeline, after a century of warfare and bloodshed unrivaled in human history- the handiwork of socialist ideology and its adherents. His socialism is part of what made Adolf Hitler so evil. There can be no argument that President Obama is likewise, a socialist.

Who is actually the fascist?
08-27-2009
•
Ellis County Press
Well, one of the primary propaganda victories old Joe Stalin achieved during his bloody reign was to convince the world that communism and fascism were utterly unlike each other. What’s a fact is fascism is a brand of left-wing ideology. Marxism and Nazism are political mirror images, offshoots of totalitarian socialism. Contrary to left-wing myth, there is no such thing as "right-wing fascism."
In the 1930s, fascism was widely viewed as "progressive" ideology championing economic modernization, active social welfare policies and an all-powerful central government, or state if you will. Both Italian dictator Benito Mussolini and German dictator Adolph Hitler were men who believed in the left. They both understood that fascism was a form of revolutionary socialism; however, what differentiated Nazism from communism was its blood-and-soil ultra-nationalism and emphasis on the consequences of race.
Additionally, fascists sought to bind the private sector to stati

WORLD'S 50 SAFEST BANKS 2009
08-27-2009
•
Global Finance Magazine
With bank stability still high on corporate and investor agendas,Global Finance publishes its 18th annual list of the world’s safest banks. After two tumultuous years that saw many of the world’s most respected banks drop out of the top-50 safest banks list, the dust appears to be settling. Those banks that kept an iron grip on their risk exposure before the financial crisis blew up have consistently topped the table and maintain their standing among the top echelon in this year’s ranking. At the same time, the big name banks that lost their safest bank ranking during the credit crunch are still absent from the list as they struggle to rebuild their credit standing. The “World’s 50 Safest Banks” 2009 were selected through a comparison of the long-term credit ratings and total assets of the 500 largest banks around the world. Ratings from Moody’s, Standard & Poor’s and Fitch were used. Global Finance has published its “World’s Safest Banks” listing for 18 years and this ranking has beco

Ah, The Game Is Afoot!

The Market Ticker
You knew it wouldn't be that easy.....
Aug. 27 (Bloomberg) -- The Federal Reserve argued yesterday that identifying the financial institutions that benefited from its emergency loans would harm the companies and render the central bank’s planned appeal of a court ruling moot.
"Harm the companies" eh? You mean reveal that they are and have been insolvent, and The Fed has been engaged in covering them up?
“What has the Fed got to hide?” said Senator Bernie Sanders, a Vermont independent who sponsored a bill to require the Fed to submit to an audit by the Government Accountability Office. “The time has come for the Fed to stop stonewalling and hand this information over to the public,” he said in an e-mail.
The Fed is hiding the insolvency of banks. They, along with their handmaidens in Congress (which is where you work Mr. Sanders) even went further and twisted the arm of FASB to legalize intentional accounting distortions that I argue amount to fraud.

9/11 and Cyberterrorism: Did the real "cyber 9/11" happen on 9/11?
08-27-2009
•
corbettreport.com
Government sources immediately began blaming North Korea for the
recent cyberterror attacks on South Korea and the U.S., despite having no evidence
to back up those claims. Now, an examination of the evidence by
independent computer experts show that the attack seems to have been coordinated from the UK.
The hysterical media coverage in the attack's wake, however, echoing
the government line that it was likely the work of North Korea, served
to cement in the minds of many that this was an act of cyberwarfare.
The idea that this surprisingly unsophisticated
attack could have come from a well-organized, hostile state or
terrorist group comes as a blessing in disguise to those groups,
agencies and advisors who have been calling for greater and greater
federal snooping powers in the name of stopping a "cyber 9/11" from
happening.
The "cyber 9/11" meme stretches back almost to
9/11 itself. Back in 2003, Mike McConnell, the ex-director&l

Bernanke Being Rewarded for Failure
08-27-2009
Ayn Rand wrote, "when you see corruption being
rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - you may know that your
society is doomed."
America is not doomed,
but the fellows in Washington are pushing for that outcome. It seems
that all the characters that encouraged this financial crisis are being
rewarded, and Ben Bernanke's re-nomination is no exception to this
rule. He was on the Board of Governors when Alan Greenspan grew our
bubble economy. Known as 'Helicopter Ben,' Bernanke was the most vocal
supporter of low interest rates to combat the bogus threat of
deflation, even if it meant dropping cash from helicopters. He
succeeded in his aim " as it is hard for prices to decline while the
money supply is growing by double digits.
Of
course, much of that new money went into speculative bubbles, first in
tech and then real estate. When the misallocation became too great to
ignore, the credit markets froze and leveraged instit

Geithner: Auditing the Fed is a "line that we don't want to cross"
Thomas Costanzo
Source: Corbett Report. In an interview released today by Digg and the Wall Street Journal, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner was pressured about the growing popular movement to Audit the Fed
spearheaded by Texas Congressman Ron Paul. A visibly uncomfortable
Geithner attempts to dismiss the question by stating "I'm sure people
understand that you want to keep politics out of monetary policy." When
Geithner is again pressed on the issue, he makes the stunning assertion
that conducting an audit of the Federal Reserve"something never before
done in its 96 year history"is a "line that we don't want to cross,"
proclaiming that such a move would be "problematic for the country."

Pastor Anderson on Alan Colmes Radio show
Thomas Costanzo
Source: Phoenix New Times Colmes had Anderson on his radio show Tuesday, specifically to
discuss the Bible thumper's "Why I Hate Barack Obama" sermon, wherein
he called for the death of our Chief Executive, primarily because Obama
supports abortion rights. Colmes has some of this show up on his blog. Anderson has it all up on his YouTube site in four sections,
which should tell you how desperate Anderson is for attention, because
Colmes makes Anderson sound like an even bigger zealoty-crackpot than
he's already proven himself to be on his own time.
In part one, Colmes delves into Anderson's views on homosexuals and
homosexuality, and Anderson has to admit that he screwed up in one of
his sermons on Massachusetts Representative Barney Frank, whom he
called a "faggot," and a "pedophile" who'd been arrested. While Frank
is openly gay, he is not a pedophile, nor has he ever been arrested.
Anderson said he had Frank co
