Recession blew through Arizona like a tornado

At least 60% of state's 100 largest employers reduced, kept workforces the same last year. Layoffs touched supposedly recession-proof health-care fields, in addition to pummeling retail operations, manufacturing firms, airlines, hotels, transportation and communication providers, home builders and financial and business services. That the job losses could hit such a variety of areas shows how interconnected the economy is and how deeply and broadly Arizona has been hurt.
