The Force was not strong enough: What Gina Carano's court win means for Disney
• MarcaGina Carano's ongoing legal battle with Disney seems to be coming to an end with a good result for her, as the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California has granted a motion to compel the entertainment giant to disclose key compensation records. The court order, issued in Case No. 2:24-cv-01009, requires Disney to provide detailed payment data for actors across The Mandalorian and other Star Wars projects within 20 days. This ruling marks a pivotal moment in Carano's wrongful termination lawsuit, which has been mired in months of legal wrangling.
Carano, who portrayed Cara Dune in The Mandalorian, was dismissed from the series in 2021 following controversial social media posts. She filed the lawsuit in February 2024, alleging wrongful termination and seeking damages for lost income. Her legal team argued that Disney had been uncooperative during the discovery process, delaying the release of critical documents needed to calculate her potential earnings had she remained with the franchise.
This is a small breath of fresh air in this long arduous process.
